Senior leadership team restructure
The merger of two “Good” Ofsted rated schools into an academy concealed fundamental tensions that within a very short time put the Academy into special measures. A year later in April 2014 a new Executive Principal was appointed. He inherited an SLT characterised by dysfunctional team dynamics, a mishmash of job descriptions, contracts, and ad hoc measures that left it completely incapable of making the necessary improvements to the school’s educational outcomes.
The Executive Principal decided to completely restructure the SLT and asked us to provide additional HR capacity to implement the changes as swiftly and as smoothly as possible. We provided a dedicated change manager to draw up a timetable identifying key stakeholders, activities and deadlines together with a detailed plan to manage legal risks. This was in place within a month and the Executive Principal worked thereafter with the in-house HR function to implement the plan on time and to budget with the change manager providing occasional specialist advice as required. The SLT is now fit the purpose and is leading the academy out of special measures. The Executive Principal’s comment was that he can recommend us “without reservation”.
